Dr. Jody Cousins, MD

I saw Dr. Cousins for the first time today and could not recommend her highly enough! She was warm, empathetic, and took the time to listen to all of my concerns. She not only addressed my physical health needs she also helped me make a plan to address my mental health needs as well. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking! 

The only bad thing was the receptionist repeatedly took her mask off while in the waiting room. Thankfully there was a glass divider between patients and her but I thought that was absurd given that she is working in a doctor's office.

Dr. Cousins was very attentive, helpful, and friendly! Overall it was a good experience.

She was fantastic. Would absolutely go see her again!

Dr. Cousins was great. She listened and was very supportive! 

Dr. Cousins was one of the most thorough doctors I’ve ever had a visit with. She asked lots of questions, took me seriously, and did multiple types of tests to make sure nothing serious was going on. I think she would be a wonderful primary care doctor, even though I just went for an “urgent care” appointment.

Such a great visit. I felt calm, supported, and got more information and suggestions that I went in thinking I needed. Highly recommend!

I feel conflicted writing this review, but I want potential future patients to know.
I went to see Dr. Cousins for a potential thyroid issue. I had various symptoms, which included fatigue and weight gain. I explained to her that I see both a dietician and personal trainer for my diet and exercise needs.
She then said to me, “you could be tired because you’ve gained weight. Your BMI is fine, but you should try to lose 5 pounds. Weight Watchers is a great program”.

There are many things wrong with this. 
1) I explained I have other health professionals I see for my diet and exercise. They feel that I my behaviors are healthy and do not need much change.
2) Seeing as I went in for a potential thyroid issue, losing 5 pounds would be incredibly difficult and joining Weight Watchers would do virtually nothing for my weight.
3) BMI is not an appropriate indicator of health. Multiple studies have shown that using BMI to measure a person’s health is antiquated.

I was not there to have her give me some outdated and unnecessary medical advice about changing my diet. I really want future patients to know about my experience so they can decide if dealing with this doctor’s fatphobia is worth it.


She was absolutely incredible. I would recommend her 1,000x over. Honestly, best appointment I’ve ever experienced.

Extremely pleased with my visit.  Will continue to use Dr. Cousins as my primary physician.

I had a great visit with Dr. Cousins today. She was warm and kind and took time to listen to me. The office is very nice. It's modern and clean inside. Also, I hardly waited at all. I'd recommend this practice if you are looking for a new PCP.

Dr. Cousins was warm, professional, and answered all of my questions for both mine and my daughters appointment. Very good family doctor.

Dr. Cousins made me feel at ease and even made a few jokes with me to help lessen the anxiety I was feeling. The office was clean and convenient to get to from the Dupont metro. 

Dr. Cousins is very friendly, competent, and  knowledgeable, which made discussions of medical issues easy and relaxed.  Further, the wait time was close to nothing.  I am looking forward to my next check-up!

Dr Cousins is incredibly professional and knowledgeable. For the first time in my life a Woman’s Wellness check your did not hurt at all. The appointment was thorough, efficient and all the staff were friendly.

Dr. Cousins is great! I had to return for follow-up blood work a few days after my physical, and Dr. Cousins saw me almost immediately to talk me through the results and put me at ease. She explained everything clearly and felt completely non-judgmental.

Dr. Cousins was super friendly, kind, and competent.  I really enjoyed meeting her and felt that she truly cared about making sure I was healthy and any concerns I had were appropriately discussed. One of the best doctors I’ve been to! She made be feel totally at ease.

I was looking for a good primary care doctor in DC and found Dr. Jody Cousins.  To say the least, she was great! Right away, I was very impressed with her care, recommendations, and the time she took to get to know me and my needs.  It felt as though I was catching up with a friend. She has definitely gained a new patient. Highly recommended!

I met with Dr. Victor and he was great and very knowledgeable. The nurse however treating me was very skiddish and I had to ask her to change gloves multiple times as she would leave the room to grab test tubes and what not. She also yelled out my negative test results in the hallway in front of other patients which I thought was odd. She might need more training on sanitary procedures. Other than that, Bc my doctor was so great I’ll visit again, but will not let that nurse treat me.

Best doctor experience and care!  Friendly and professional staff; quick yet very attentive.   I was running a few minutes late and my wait time was still non-existent.  Dr. Cousins treated my pneumonia and 2 weeks later took excellent care of multiple injuries I suffered from a crash.  She  is my new primary care doc and I HIGHLY recommend seeing her!

We had a very unpleasant experience with Dr.Cousins. She misdiagnosed my mother, with serious implications,and then was arrogant when we tried to get her help finding a solution. We found her difficult and uncaring.

Dr. Cousins is fine. She is a friendly person and well-intentioned. However, my wait was over an hour long despite having an appointment, and she was not very professional in my opinion. She attempted to talk to me about politics, specifically her admiration of Amy Coney Barrett, and about protest looting and violence. I tried to end these conversations, but she was persistent. It's no wonder my wait was over an hour long considering how much time she spent prying into my life and personal opinions about things that had nothing to do with my reason for visiting. If I can help it, I won't be going back. 

I will say though her nurse was awesome. He was very kind and professional.

She is professional, personable, and polite! Such a great doctor. I have already recommended her to a friend.

She made some extremely off-putting comments during my checkup, including, after finding out that my partner was in the Army, that she would never be in a relationship with anyone from the Army due to "too much PTSD." She made that remark without asking any questions about my partner or relationship, and it really made me question her professionalism and the comfort with which she, a medical professional, casually and offensively diagnosed an entire branch of the military. Soldiers, and families of soldiers, deserve better.

Dr. Cousins was great! Very reassuring and attentive to me. Asked a lot of great questions and made me feel very heard. 

I arrived 20 minutes early for my 12:30 appointment and didn’t see the doctor until 1:30. She was very nice and spent her time with me hearing my concerns.

I was disappointed that not every member of the staff was wearing a mask or they were wearing them incorrectly (not fully covering their noses). I also was told I could take off my mask during my appointment, which was surprising. My understanding of the guidelines is that masks should be worn if we aren't able to be at least 6-feet apart. I can see being told to take the mask off while actually being examined, but not while we're just talking to one another. I also wasn't notified prior to my appointment about how the check-in process would work or what I should do if exhibiting any COVID-19 related symptoms. All of this made me uneasy about being at the facility. 

Absolutely seamless visit. Very comfortable experience! 

Dr. Cousins is  awesome. I felt very comfortable, and felt that she gave me great advice. She even took the time out of her day to actually chat with me and it was a really nice experience. 

Wow, I showed up and no one was wearing a mask. Finally, I asked whether they wear masks at the office and they said “I mean, we can.” Then during the actual appointment the PA walked in 4 inches away from my face not wearing a mask...I asked her to please put one on and she gave me a face like I had just insulted her mother, then tried to shame me about it. Do NOT go here if you are concerned about COVID or want to interact with medical professionals who take public health seriously.

Dr. Cousins was incredibly kind, thorough, and reassuring. 

Lab tech wasn’t good, wait time over an hour, asked if I wanted to see someone else, most of stuff I said was not conveyed or transferred to my chart, also told to stop  answering question and to to tell the rest to the doctor... related to my family history...  information given not taken down in chart, etc.... spent most of time waiting or talking about nonrelated appointment visit stuff

She was really nice, professional, and easy to talk to. 

Really appreciated her bedside manner! Made you feel comfortable right away. Didn’t order unnecessary tests and was thorough about my care. Would  recommend her to everyone! 

I really enjoyed speaking with Dr. Cousins. She was  understanding and really took time to understand my concern. 

Everyone at this facility from the front desk, to the nurses, to Dr. Cousins, were exceptional. I've never had such a positive, all-around staff experience at a doctor's office. 

And Dr. Cousins could have seen me sooner, but she was pulling double time between in-patient visits and tele-apointments with all the Covid craziness. She apologized for the wait, but I've historically waited at least 30min in exam rooms before the doctor sees me, so this was still WAY above par. Dr. Cousins was relatable, friendly and attentive and didn't rush through the appointment. I didn't mind the short wait at all (if you can even call that a wait), and will definitely be back!

New Doctor and new space but overall good experience. My only issue is they didn't have a sink in the room so everyone had to walk out and back in to wash their hands.

Great experience but had to come back two more times because they couldn’t find a good vein for blood drawing and then didn’t record my first urine sample

Dr. Cousins was very nice and got me in and out of the office quickly. I would definitely see her again as a pcp. 

The wait time was 40 minutes without anyone updating on how much longer the wait time would be. The NP that treated me was nice but felt that the doctor wasn't friendly at all and just glared at me as I was leaving. 

I had a great appointment honestly. Went for a follow-up. Service was great. 

The app shows that this doctor takes my insurance. I handed them the card and they treated me twice, but this is actually out of my insurance, so I will have to pay out of pocket. 

Minimal wait time (fewer than 10 minutes) for a 10:30AM appointment. I met with the PA—I believe her name is Susan—rather than Dr. Cousins. Susan was wonderful and took care to patiently address all of my questions and concerns. The blood work and vaccination done by the nursing staff was painless and efficient. I would highly recommend this practice.

Dr. Cousins took the time to ask me about my life and get to know me, and also shared about herself and her life, which made me feel more comfortable.  She was very friendly and I liked that she didn’t push unnecessary tests during my annual.
